JUDGING AND AWARDS

JUDGING

All judges will be watching Technique and enjoying the energy that your dancers bring to the stage while critiquing Performance and Personality. General Effect of a routine , formations, transitions, choreography, music edits, costume choices, and ect, will be given special attention as well. All three judges' points will be combined to arrive at our adjudicated scores.

Our adjudicated awards platinum, gold, silver, bronze will be decided by a predetermined range of points. The Pre-Professional level may earn the coveted highest adjudicated award, the Precision Award. There may be multiple adjudicated awards in each age group and category. Each routine will receive a trophy.

Contestants will be judged by a panel of professionals in the field of dance, modeling, acting, and/or performance. All dancers, parents, and directors agree that the time, manner, and method of judging the contestant shall be solely at the discretion of the directors and producers of Precision Dance Challenge. All decisions of the judges are final.

PREMIER CATEGORY

This category is for conceptual choreography, tribute routines, and artists that would simply like to perform for an audience. The students, choreographer, and school with an entry in the "Premier" category will receive recognition for their artistry.

GYMNASTIC GUIDELINES

The following dance categories can contain NO gymnastic/acrobatic tricks.

  • Ballet and Pointe

A one-half (.5) point deduction per judge will be made for any gymnastic/acrobatic tricks in these categories. Tricks not allowed are movements that pass through or stop at a fully inverted (upside down) position with both feet off the floor (the torso passing or stopping directly over the top of one's head/shoulders). The only exceptions to this are forward, backward and shoulder rolls, and acro tricks in lifts (a lift being defined as being supported by another dancer with any body part).

The following dance categories can contain ONLY 3 or less gymnastic/acrobatic tricks.

  • Tap

  • Jazz

  • Lyrical Jazz

  • Contemporary

  • Clogging

A one-half (.5) point deduction per judge will be made for any gymnastic/acrobatic tricks in these categories over three.

POINT DEDUCTIONS

If dance movements, music lyrics, or costuming are deemed to be too suggestive or otherwise inappropriate for our family audience, or if the music contains vulgar or inappropriate lyrics, the scores will reflect poor choices in music and movement.

Any performers that exit the stage prior to the completion of the performance will be scored upon their first attempt. They are allowed to perform again for the satisfaction of completing the routine.

A one-half (.5) point deduction per judge will be made for any violations.

TITLE ENTRIES:

Any Pre-Professional soloists in the Petite, Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, and Senior age group may compete for title.  Soloists may sign up at the event PRIOR to their scheduled session.  Soloists may only enter 1 routine for title.  Each judge will have a separate score sheet for all TITLE candidates judging on the routine's style.  There must be a minimum of 4 soloists in an age division to compete for TITLE .  If the minimum is not met, the studio will receive a refund check following the competition for those who could not compete for title.
